1 * SORGHUM LEAVES SPICED TEA - 80g


Sorghum leaves (popularly known as Waakye leaves in Ghana) have been blended with immune boosting spices, fruits and herbs in making this replenishing Sorghum Tea blend.

Sorghum leaves are also known as Massambala, Brooncorn, Karrir-corn, Sorgho Rouge, Guinea Corn, Tri colour Millet leaves, Milo or Shattercane.

 Nutritional Content

Sorghum leaves do contain carotenoids, flavodoids and phenolic acids, chlorophyll, lycopene and beta-carotene, iron, as well as palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acid.

 

FLAVOUR PROFILE

Smoky citrusy base with a refreshing finish.

 

USAGE

Start your day by brewing 1 teaspoonful in 200ml of hot water and enjoy.

Add our Raw Honey as your preferred sweetener which has a minty base.

 

ALLERGY

As Sorghum leaves are Grass it does contain Grass Pollen

The Prekese (Aidan Fruit) Tea which also works as a sweet seasoning for soups & sauces is blended  with organic cloves, Guinea Pepper and spices for an invigorating experience. 

 

NUTRITIONAL BENEFITS

The Aidan fruit (Prekese) is an excellent source of calcium, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, tannins, flavonoids, terpenoids, and phytochemicals.

 

FLAVOUR PROFILE

A sweet woody and spicy taste. Can be used to make an African Chai. Just add it to your milk and simmer gently for 20 minutes. Add your preferred sweetener or try our minty flavoured honey.

The Aidan fruit Tea blend can also be used as a spice blend for robust flavoured Meat such as Goat, Mutton, Lamb and poultry such as Guinea fowl, Duck and Turkey. 

STORAGE

Store in an airtight container and in a dry cool place. Suitable for freezing.


 
USAGE

Steep a teaspoonful in 250ml hot water for 5 minutes. Can be enjoyed on its own or with honey once a day.

Add to your Hibiscus drinks of Sobolo or Zobo.

Add to your Pepper soup or Light soup to enjoy its sweetness and health benefits.


Even though this is an all natural blend excessive  consumption isn’t advised.

Must avoid if pregnant , have stomach ulcer, nausea or vomiting.

Grains of Selim, known as ‘Etso’ in Ewe, ‘Hwentia’ in Akan (languages from Ghana) and in Nigeria as ‘Uda’, is a popular spice used in most dishes for that musky black peppercorn flavour.

 

USES

Grains of Selim can be added to porridges , stews, soups, drinks, Coffee and Teas.

The popular West African barbecue spice mix known as ‘Yaji spice’ or ‘Suya spice mix’ includes this amazing spice.
In Senegal the popular Café Touba also includes this amazing spice.

FLAVOUR PROFILE:
The taste of the Grains of Selim is best described as a cross between black peppercorns, lavender with woody hints.
The seeds do have a bitter taste which makes it a complex and amazing spice to try.
