Kelewele (Seasoned fried ripened Plantain) using Buy Ndudu’s Kelewele Seasoning blend
Kelewele is a popular Ghanaian snack made from seasoned, slightly over ripened Plantain and fried.
The traditional Kelewele flavour is aromatic and hot in terms of the inclusion of Chilli.
Our Kelewele Seasoning and Spice blend is mild (in terms of heat) and aromatic. This allows you to control the amount of heat you add in terms of Chilli.
Our in house made Scotch Bonnet Chilli powder works perfectly by adding that extra heat to your Kelewele.
2 slightly over-ripened Plantain, peeled and cut into sizeable chunks
1 tablespoonful of #BuyNdudu #KeleweleSeasoningblend
1 medium sized blended Onion
1 tablespoonful of blended Ginger
1 levelled teaspoon of chilli powder or a quarter of a teaspoon of Buy Ndudu’s #ScotchBonnet powder (optional)
Preferred oil for frying
Add all the ingredients to your Plantain Chunks and mix well.
Marinate in the fridge overnight (this allows the Plantain to absorb all the spices and helps the spices stick to the Plantain when fried).
Heat your oil up till it’s medium hot
Gently add the spiced Plantain and leave it to fry undisturbed for 5 minutes.
Using a slotted spoon gently turn the Plantain over and fry for a further 3 minutes.
Remove the Plantain and allow the excess oil to drain and serve.
Serve with roasted Peanuts.
